Another great thing that this competition does is it is a benefit competition for Project Linus Charity and The Dream Factory. Last year, we collected 115 blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus National Headquarters is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission: First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children. What we at Cheer Elite are doing is collecting blankets from the participants, parents and spectators at the competition to give to the local Linus Charity so that they may give them out at our local hospitals to the children. We ask that the participants, parents and spectators help us by donating blankets. For more information about this charity or for some easy pattern ideas, such as the "No Sew quick and easy fleece blanket" visit http://www.projectlinus.org/links.shtml
Our volunteers, known as “blanketeers,” provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. It is Project Linus’ policy to accept blankets of all sizes, depending on local chapter needs. All styles of blankets are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. Always remember that blankets must be homemade, washable, free of pins, and come from smoke-free environments due to allergy reasons.
